VMware Technology Partner Hub.VMware OVF Tool Release Notes

There are many organizations running multiple environments such as Test, Development, Stage, and production. Usually all the developments and deployments start with the Test or Development environment.

Once the deployment or POC is completed in the lower environment, they want to move the deployment on a higher environment such as Stage or Production. It will waste a lot of effort if you are re-doing the things from scratch in the upper environments such as stage or production. Environments have direct connectivity, we can clone the virtual machines directly between vCenter Server using Cross-vCenter VMotion. Cross-vCenter vMotion feature requires enterprise plus license.

Installation is quite simple as similar to all other windows installers. I am not going to explain each step of the OVF tool installation. By default, below is the installation directory. For example, enter the vCenter URL and credentials.

It will suggest possible completions, which are the objects under the path you have entered. OVF file. OVF file extension here. I hope this article is informative for you. Thanks for Reading!!!. Be social and share it in social media, if you feel worth sharing it. Menu Skip to content.

Export VM to OVA or OVF using OVF Tool - The Ultimate Guide.Windows 11 Support on vSphere

Installing Windows 11 in a virtual machine on vSphere 7 requires slightly more manual configuration compared to the vSphere 8. When creating a new virtual machine, using the vSphere Client, select a minimum of virtual machine compatibility with ESXi 6. A Trusted Platform Module device is not a default device and must be added manually during the new VM creation wizard. Normally this would not be needed and is a known issue. See KB Article for more details. When using vSphere 8 and hardware version 20, these settings are automatically selected for Windows 11 virtual machines.

If you remove or replace the vTPM device on a Windows 11 VM using features like Windows BitLocker or Windows Hello, these features will cease functionality and you may lose access to the Windows operating system or data if you are without the appropriate recovery options.

This allows best practices that each VM contain a unique TPM device be followed and improves vSphere support for Windows 11 deployment at scale. In vSphere 7, you can customize the virtual machine hardware and remove and re-add the vTPM device manually during the clone wizard.

Important : Always be aware of what impact copying or replacing a vTPM device may have on a virtual machine. When you deploy a virtual machine from a VM template containing a vTPM device, the same caveats apply as when cloning a virtual machine with a vTPM device. In vSphere 7, you can customize the virtual machine hardware and remove and re-add the vTPM device manually during the template deployment wizard.

In vSphere 8, currently the default TPM provision policy copy is applied and cannot be changed during deployment from a Content Library. The vSphere Client will display a message:. If you wish to use the replace TPM provision policy when deploying from Content Library, change the vCenter advanced setting vpxd.

You must manually add a vTPM device to the imported machine. VMware is working to improve this workflow in a future release. Using the OVF Tool 4. You must still first manually remove the vTPM device from the virtual machine before export. The following example command will export the virtual machine named myvm and add a vTPM placeholder to the resulting ovf file. The following example command will import the OVF myvm.

OVF Tool 4. This includes virtual machines configured with vTPM devices. To support migrations between vCenter Server instances, each instance must be configured with the same Key Provider.

Regardless of the type of key provider, the ESXi host obtains the keys initially and retains them in its key cache. If the ESXi host reboots, it loses its key cache. The ESXi host then requests the keys again, either from the key provider. When the ESXi host tries to obtain keys and the key server is offline or unreachable, vTPMs and workload encryption cannot function.

In vSphere 7. So, even if an ESXi host reboots, the host does not need to request encryption keys. For more, see Key Persistence Overview. Key persistence can be used to support Windows 11 virtual machines to run on standalone ESXi hosts. This item does not appear to have any files that can be experienced on Archive.
